BRC in Brighton
On Saturday 10th of June, Beckenham Rugby Cyclists paid Brighton a visit.
The culmination of our four preparation rides saw 18 riders set out early from the rugby club on a beautiful sunny day; a slight wind which oddly always seemed to be a head wind was not a major obstacle to us.
The group split into a slower group led by David Plews, ably assisted by Graham Carmichael and Tony Coleman, and a medium pace group led by David Fearn. The scenic route led us through roads with little traffic to our half way coffee stop at Tulleys Farm near Turners Hill where both groups re-united.
As we progressed further through Sussex we passed through some lovely towns, one even had a pub that welcomed socialists; sadly for David Plews the draw of eating chips on Brighton seafront meant we could not stop!
As we were close to Brighton we had to go over the South Downs via Devils Dyke, a steep and testing climb but the views made that burning feeling in the thighs worth it and the training paid off as everyone made it to the top and then enjoyed the sharp descent into Brighton for some well-earned food, drink and banter.
Looking forward to our next seaside trip, Whitstable, on the Sunday 27th August (the late summer bank holiday weekend).
